Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), Bharat’s longest sea bridge, during his visit to Maharashtra on January 12. This 21.8-km bridge, officially named Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewari – Nhava Sheva Atal Setu, was constructed at a cost of ₹17,480 crore and will significantly enhance connectivity in the region.
Key Projects and Foundation Stone Laying: During his day-long visit, PM Modi will dedicate to the nation and lay the foundation stone for projects worth ₹30,500 crore. This includes the MTHL, which is expected to reduce travel time from Mumbai to Pune, Goa, and Southern Bharat, providing faster access to Mumbai International Airport and Navi Mumbai International Airport. Motorists will pay ₹250 for a one-way trip.
The Prime Minister’s visit will commence in Nashik, where he will inaugurate the 27th National Youth Festival. By 3:30 pm, PM Modi will be in Mumbai, formally inaugurating the Atal Setu. Subsequently, he will attend a public program in Navi Mumbai to inaugurate, dedicate, and lay the foundation stone for various development projects worth over ₹12,700 crore.
The public meeting in Navi Mumbai is anticipated to draw around one lakh attendees, primarily women, aligning with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s ambitious program announced after the recent passage of the women reservation bill in parliament. PM Modi will also launch the Namo Mahila Shashaktikaran Abhiyaan, aiming to empower women in Maharashtra through skill development training and entrepreneurship exposure.
Infrastructure and Water Projects: The PMO statement outlined the inauguration of an underground road tunnel connecting the eastern freeway’s orange gate to Marine Drive, costing more than ₹8,700 crore. Additionally, PM Modi will dedicate phase 1 of the Surya regional bulk drinking water project (₹1,975 crore) and railway projects totaling ₹2,000 crore.
Several other projects are expected to be inaugurated, including the twin tunnel between Borivali and Thane, the fourth railway corridor between Kharkopar and Uran, the Digha Gaon railway station inauguration, Mothagaon-Mankoli bridge, and the formal launch of the first line of the Metro during his visit.
In conclusion, PM Modi’s visit to Maharashtra on January 12 is poised to mark a significant milestone in the region’s infrastructure development, with the inauguration of the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link standing out as a testament to the government’s commitment to improving connectivity and fostering economic growth.
