In a recent development, Iranian authorities have taken action against those responsible for the January 3 attacks in the southeastern city of Kerman. The Intelligence Ministry announced on Thursday that 35 individuals have been arrested in connection with the tragic incident, as reported by the semi-official Tasnim news agency.
The ministry disclosed that it had successfully identified one of the two suicide bombers involved in the attacks. Shockingly, the perpetrator was revealed to be a national of Tajikistan, who entered Iran illegally on December 19. The authorities plan to release further information about the second suicide bomber at a later date. Notably, the arrests were carried out in various provinces across Iran.
The January 3 attacks targeted a memorial event for the late Iranian commander Qassem Soleimani and resulted in the loss of nearly 100 lives, with 284 people sustaining injuries. The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack on January 4, making it the bloodiest incident since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
Tehran, in response to this heinous act, has vowed to seek revenge for the lives lost in what is considered a significant and tragic event in the country’s recent history. As investigations continue, the Iranian government is determined to hold those responsible accountable for their actions and ensure the safety and security of its citizens.
