President Droupadi Murmu’s visit to the Northeastern States took center stage as she inaugurated the 5th Meghalaya Games at Tura’s PA Sangma Stadium, marking a historic moment for the region. In her address, President Murmu emphasized the untapped potential of Northeast Bharat in sports development, urging support for talent from tribal areas and encouraging professionalism in sports. She applauded the region’s promotion of women in sports and recognized the contributions of Northeast athletes to Bharat’s international standing.
The 5th Meghalaya Games, a departure from its usual location in Shillong, includes traditional indigenous games, adding a unique touch to the event. President Murmu expressed optimism, stating that the games would encourage excellence, promote competitiveness, and create a vibrant sporting ecosystem.
In a parallel event, President Murmu paid floral tributes to former Lok Sabha Speaker PA Sangma at the PA Sangma Sports Complex in Tura, highlighting the President’s active engagement with different communities and development projects in the region.
Her packed itinerary includes inaugurating the Integrated Administration Complex, addressing self-help groups, and virtually inaugurating infrastructure projects. Her comprehensive tour underscores her commitment to fostering growth and community development in the Northeastern States of Bharat.
The President’s visit, which extends into Assam, includes attending the golden jubilee celebrations of the Karbi Youth Festival, reinforcing her dedication to the overall development of the Northeastern States.
