In an exciting development, Bharat is set to host the 71st Miss World pageant after a hiatus of 28 years, with the event being streamed and telecast globally. The announcement was made by the official page of Miss World, sharing the enthusiasm of Chairman Julia Morley CBE for a celebration of beauty, diversity, and empowerment under the theme #MissWorldIndia #BeautyWithAPurpose.
The last time Bharat hosted the Miss World pageant was in 1996 in Bengaluru. Bharat has a rich history with the Miss World crown, with Reita Faria Powell becoming the first Bharat woman to win in 1966. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Diana Hayden, Yukta Mookhey, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Manushi Chhillar have also claimed the title in subsequent years.
The upcoming event, scheduled between February 18 and March 9, will take place at prominent venues like the G-20 site, Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, and the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai. The Opening Ceremony and ‘India Welcomes the World Gala’ on February 20 will be hosted by the Bharat Tourism Development Corporation at Hotel Ashok in New Delhi, leading up to the global finale on March 9 in Mumbai.
Miss World Organization’s Chairman and CEO, Julia Evelyn Morley CBE, expressed her joy at returning to Bharat, stating that the month-long festival aims to celebrate female achievement and showcase Bharat to the world. Munish Gupta, Advisor to the Miss World Organization in Bharat, highlighted that the event will showcase Bharat’s rich cultural tapestry, traditions, heritage, arts, crafts, textiles, cuisine, and tourism to a massive global audience.
This year’s Miss World contestants will have their own media channels on MissWorld.com to present why they should advance to the Top 20 finals. The competition will feature various challenges, including the World Top Designer Award & Miss World Top Model in Mumbai, Miss World Sports Challenge in New Delhi, Miss World Talent Final in Mumbai, Multi-Media Challenge in Mumbai, Head To Head Challenge Final in New Delhi, and the Continental Beauty With A Purpose Challenge in New Delhi.
Endemol Shine Bharat is set to produce the 71st Miss World Final. Rishi Negi, Group COO- Banijay Asia and Endemol Shine Bharat, expressed pride in securing the television production mandate, highlighting their leadership and excellence in event production. The live telecast of the 71st Miss World Final is scheduled for March 9 from 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai.
