In a historic move, a team of 47 workers from the Rashtriya Gokul Mission and 20 progressive farmers from Sikkim are set to participate in the Republic Day program in New Delhi for the first time. The announcement was made through an official statement on Tuesday, expressing warm wishes for their safe and fruitful participation in the national capital’s prestigious event.
The participating group comprises 47 multi-purpose artificial insemination workers affiliated with the Rashtriya Gokul Mission, a scheme dedicated to the development and conservation of indigenous bovine breeds. Additionally, 20 progressive farmers associated with the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY), a scheme emphasizing water conservation and management, are part of this historic delegation. Their journey commenced from the premises of Krishi Bhawan.
Addressing the gathering, State Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Minister Lok Nath Sharma highlighted the crucial role of good governance in effectively implementing central schemes. He commended Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang’s “farming-friendly vision” for bringing about a significant transformation in the livestock farming and agriculture sector in Sikkim.
The official statement emphasized that the unique opportunity for farmers and artificial insemination workers to participate in the Republic Day Celebration is a testament to the positive changes in Sikkim’s farming landscape. Minister Sharma officially flagged off the buses carrying the 67 invitees who will be part of the Republic Day program on Friday in the national capital.
During the send-off, Minister Sharma engaged with the farmers, shedding light on various initiatives undertaken by the state government for the upliftment of the farming community. The Republic Day participation marks a milestone for Sikkim, reflecting the commitment to agricultural development and the recognition of the hard work put in by the farmers and workers under these government schemes.
