In a recent meeting at the United Nations, Pakistan’s UN envoy Munir Akram has once again attempted to involve the international community in Bharat’s internal affairs. During the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) ambassadorial meeting in New York, Akram addressed the issue of the consecration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. He went a step further, urging the UN to safeguard what he claimed was a “threat to the well-being” of Muslims in Bharat.
In a letter directed to Miguel Angel Moratinos, an official for the UN Alliance of Civilisations, Akram expressed condemnation for the construction and consecration of the Ram Temple. He argued that this trend poses a significant threat to the social, economic, and political well-being of Indian Muslims, as well as to the harmony and peace in the region.
This is not the first instance of Pakistan attempting to interfere in Bharat’s internal matters. Historically, Pakistan has made unsuccessful attempts to internationalize the Kashmir issue at the UN. Bharat government sources have responded to these claims, asserting that Pakistan has no business in Ayodhya’s Ram Mandir.
Foreign ministry officials in New Delhi emphasized that Bharat is not a “banana republic” and highlighted the independence of its judiciary. They mentioned that the court proceedings leading to the construction of the temple had undergone decades of scrutiny, involving all levels of the judiciary, including the apex court. The officials dismissed Pakistan’s reference to the ISI (Inter-Services Intelligence) and criticized Pakistan’s own judicial system.
Officials further underlined that Bharat has a history of providing space to all religions and accused Pakistan of attempting to create trouble by provoking Bharat Muslims who participated in celebrations in Ayodhya. The city witnessed the deity’s pran pratishtha ceremony, attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
As tensions rise between the two neighboring countries, Bharat remains steadfast in its assertion that internal matters, such as the consecration of the Ram Temple, are not within the purview of international intervention. The diplomatic exchange at the UN reflects the ongoing challenges in the relationship between Bharat and Pakistan.
