In a significant development, French President Emmanuel Macron has pledged support for Bharat’s aspirations to host the Olympic Games in the near future. Speaking at a banquet hosted by Bharat President Droupadi Murmu, Macron expressed enthusiasm for building stronger cooperation in sports with Bharat.
Macron stated, “We will be delighted to build a stronger cooperation on sports with you. We will definitely support your intention to organize the Olympic Games in India for the future…” This assurance comes as Macron attended the 75th Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi, marking France’s sixth participation as the chief guest, the highest of any other nation.
Notably, France is gearing up to host the 2024 Olympics, scheduled to take place from July 26 to August 11. The Paralympics will follow, commencing on August 28 and concluding on September 8 in Paris.
Bharat, buoyed by its impressive performance in the 2020-21 Tokyo Olympics, where it achieved its best-ever results, is eyeing the prospect of hosting the Olympic Games. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during the inauguration of the Khelo India games on January 19, had announced the government’s commitment to work towards hosting the 2036 Olympic Games.
PM Modi emphasized the efforts made over the last decade to provide international exposure to Indian athletes and create a conducive ecosystem for their growth. Bharat’s stellar performance in the Asian Games and Para Asian Games further underscores its commitment to excellence in sports.
