Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika, amidst recent exodus of leaders from the Congress into the BJP, predicts a wave of many more defections from the Grand Old Party to the Saffron Party in the coming month.
Following the recent defections of former Assam youth Congress president Angkita Dutta and former Congress MLA Bismita Gogoi to the BJP, Hazarika divulged about plans for a significant influx of Opposition figures into the saffron party’s ranks. Scheduled for February 5, an upcoming BJP event is expected to witness a notable procession of erstwhile Congress stalwarts embracing the ruling party.
Addressing reporters, Hazarika confidently asserted, “I had mentioned on numerous occasions the Congress would be wiped out from Assam. But the Opposition leaders kept on attacking me. However, if they look at the current situation, my statement is going to be true.”
Highlighting the palpable momentum behind the defections owing to the BJP’s agenda and leadership, Hazarika disclosed, “We get numerous calls every day from the Congress leaders. They want to leave the Opposition camp and join our party.”
With a pledge to prioritize public welfare, Hazarika attributed the gravitational pull of the BJP to the proactive governance spearheaded by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in Assam and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the national stage.
“Our Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has been working for the welfare of the State and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been working for the people of the whole nation. The Opposition leaders are bound to join our party because of BJP’s development work,” he proclaimed, encapsulating the narrative of development-driven politics fuelling the party’s ascendancy.
