In a speech at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared ambitious plans for Bharat’s economic growth and highlighted the pivotal role of the auto and automotive component industry. He confidently declared Bharat’s rapid expansion, aiming to become the world’s third-largest economy during the “third term” of his government.
Acknowledging the crucial contribution of truck and taxi drivers in the mobility sector, Modi unveiled a new government scheme to develop rest facilities on National Highways. Concerned about their lack of proper resting places leading to road accidents, the initiative aims to construct 1,000 modern buildings equipped with amenities such as food stalls, clean drinking water, toilets, parking, and rest areas.
The Prime Minister emphasized the positive impact of this scheme on the ease of living and travel for drivers, promoting their health and contributing to accident prevention. Modi dubbed the current period as the “beginning of the golden period for India’s mobility sector.”
Reflecting on the progress made in his previous terms, Modi urged the industry to focus on research avenues leveraging India’s abundant raw materials for battery manufacturing. He encouraged exploration in areas like green hydrogen and ethanol, emphasizing the importance of self-reliance and sustainability.
Highlighting the recent Union Budget, Modi commended the substantial increase in capital expenditure, providing numerous opportunities for Bharat’s mobility sector. He praised the National Electric Mobility Mission for its role in promoting electric vehicle manufacturing and urged the industry to leverage Bharat’s resources, particularly in battery manufacturing.
Modi also celebrated the government’s infrastructural development achievements, including the construction of 75 new airports and approximately 4 lakh rural roads in the last decade. He emphasized the transformative impact of Fast-Tag technology, contributing to annual economic benefits.
Addressing poverty alleviation efforts, Modi highlighted that around 25 crore people have emerged from poverty in the last 10 years. He urged industry leaders to capitalize on the positive atmosphere in the mobility sector, emphasizing the need for rapid transformation to harness possibilities in the coming 25 years.
In addition, the Prime Minister called for collaboration between industry leaders and Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) to align courses with industry needs, fostering relevant skills among the workforce. Overall, the speech outlined a comprehensive vision for Bharat’s mobility sector, emphasizing growth, safety, and sustainability.
