He added, “The government has fenced a 10 km stretch in Moreh, Manipur, out of the total border length. There are two ongoing pilot projects which include fencing through a Hybrid Surveillance System. The respective projects will cover a stretch of 1 km each in Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh”.
He also added, “Approvals for fence works which cover over 20 km in Manipur have been granted and the work will start soon”.
Manipur shares over 390 km of its border with Myanmar, but only 10 km has been fenced as of now. The government shared the data in July last year indicating that around 700 illegal immigrants had entered the state.
Mizoram has observed massive anti-Junta rebels in the thousands since the military coup in Myanmar on February 1, 2021. Over a thousand refugees have taken refuge in many parts of Mizoram since the coup.
Importantly, Mizoram shares a 510-km-long border with Myanmar. Manipur CM N Biren Singh stated that many people from Myanmar tried to enter the state.
Arunachal Pradesh shares a 520-km border with Myanmar, and Nagaland shares a 215-km border with the country.
