In the Lok Sabha on Thursday, the government is going to propose a ‘white paper’ to compare the financial situation before and after 2014.
BJP’s Jayant Sinha, chairman of the parliamentary finance committee, “The white paper will showcase the country’s poor financial condition during that time and how it improved under the rule of the BJP government”.
Surprisingly, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman made the first call for a white paper in her budget speech. Sitharaman said, “Bharat was in a financial crisis in the year 2014 and praised the Modi government for putting the economy on a sustainable growth path.
Blaming the poor management of the Congress-led UPA regime, she stated on February 1, 2024, that the present government will lay a ‘white paper’ on the House table.
KNOW ABOUT THE WHITE PAPER
A ‘White Paper’ is a report which highlights achievements, policies, and issues of the government. As per the Stanford Law School, Government papers are usually colour-coded for distribution and white is appointed for public access.
Notably, a white paper is brought by the government on a specific subject to discuss issues, suggestions, or conclusions.
The present government aims to bring a white paper to clarify how the BJP government brought a positive change in the economic situation after 2014.
On this, Jayant Sinha, chairman of the parliamentary finance committee, said, “Bharat was one of the ‘weak five’ economies in 2013. Sinha added, “We will clarify in the white paper about the economic status before 2014 and how we dealt with the economic crisis”.
In her budget speech, Nirmala Sitharaman said that it’s the right time to know where the country was till 2014 and should take lessons from the ‘improper management of those years’.
The government has charged Congress for the mismanagement of the economy.
