General Elections in Pakistan were held on Thursday as the polling started at 8 am and concluded at 5 pm. The contesting Parties for the 2024 Pakistan General Assembly were such as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI)-affiliated, PMLN (Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz) and PPP (Pakistan Peoples Party).
Reports of violence, allegations of systemic irregularities and poll rigging spread in local media. As per the media reports, Pakistani voters also faced many disturbances during polling.
According to reports, Polling didn’t even start till 3 pm at many polling stations. Many voters were running from pillar to post just to find their voting booths. In most of the cases, the entire family’s data was not available at one polling station.
Certain polling stations across the country faced delays in the voting process. There was also a terror attack on security forces who were doing election duties, which resulted in the loss of four policemen.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) also failed to make provision for the physically challenged. Pakistani voters weren’t even able to check their National Identity Card (NIC) numbers on their phones. Many voters opted not to exercise their democratic right to vote.
In some parts of Lahore, the party made arrangements for food and transport, where the Pakistan Muslim League leaders were contesting. The Pakistan People’s Party also made the arrangements for their voters.
On the other hand, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan were completely different as the two provinces struggled with violent attacks.
This was the first election for the residents of tribal areas since they were mainstreamed following the merger with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The ongoing fight of Pakistan against terrorism, which has continued for over two decades is facing new challenges as militant groups have resurged since 2021.
The new government will face challenges in dealing with the Tehreek-i-Taliban and Baloch nationalists.
Pakistan Election Results are yet to be announced but more likely Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI)-affiliated candidates are in a win-win situation, followed by PMLN (Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz) and PPP (Pakistan Peoples party) contenders.
Prediction of results started nearly 12 hours after polling for national and provincial assemblies which ended on Thursday.
