Pakistan, a country reeling under economic, political and social upheaval is also witnessing a major event. The General elections. Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif claimed victory in the ongoing general elections. According to him, his political party has emerged as the largest and will discuss forming a coalition government. Speculations are rife that Sharif’s party also reached out to independent candidates affiliated to PTI.
Although, it hasn’t been revealed yet, that how many seats his political party won. Counting is still going continuing in the last 265 seats that went to the elections.
Meanwhile, independent candidates backed by jailed former-Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Party have come out as the surprising underdogs by winning 86 seats out of the 201 results announced. The candidates will supposedly meet Imran Khan in jail to discuss the outcome.
In addition, the general elections have also been tarnished by allegations of rigging, sporadic violence, and countrywide mobile phone shutdown. The elections underwent in 265 seats of the total 266 seats of the national assembly, making it a crucial race for the candidates to attain majority of 133 seats.
