Farmers Protest: Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Punjab to March in Delhi on February 13, Advocating for MSP Legislation

Input suggests that as many as 20,000 farmers with 2,000 tractors may try to enter Delhi. The police are gearing up for all kinds of  anti-social elements which can affect law and order.

In a renewed call for their demands, several farmer associations, predominantly hailing from Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Punjab, have announced their intention to stage a march in New Delhi on February 13.

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha have announced that more than 200 farm unions will march to Delhi on Tuesday urging  the Government to accept several demands, including the enactment of a law to guarantee a minimum support price (MSP) for crops.

The primary focal point of their agitation is the urgent need for legislation guaranteeing a Minimum Support Price (MSP) for their agricultural produce. This demand was one of the crucial conditions agreed upon when the farmers decided to withdraw their protests in 2021.

Planning Ahead, and not to repeat the chaos of 2020 Farmers’ Protest, the Haryana government has taken precautionary measures by sealing the state’s border with Punjab. Barbed wires and concrete blocks have been deployed to deter the planned ‘Dilli Chalo’ march by the agitated farmers.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police has proactively issued a traffic advisory to guide commuters and manage potential congestion on roads during the planned demonstration. The advisory aims to ensure the smooth flow of regular traffic while acknowledging the potential impact of the farmer’s march on the city’s roadways.

Input suggests that as many as 20,000 farmers with 2,000 tractors may try to enter Delhi. The police are gearing up for all kinds of  anti-social elements which can affect law and order.

Apart from all these steps, the Delhi Police is actively monitoring social media for any potential developments. The meticulous preparations come in response to the tumultuous events that unfolded on Delhi roads during the 2020-21 farmers’ agitation against the three central agricultural laws. On January 26, 2021, farmers breached Delhi’s borders, and a faction of protesters engaged in violent activities. The situation escalated as some protesters reached the Red Fort, where they unfurled flags representing farmer unions from its ramparts. The clashes resulted in numerous injuries, and more than 30 police vehicles were damaged in the confrontation between farmers and law enforcement.
