In a display of maritime solidarity and quick response, the Bharatiya Navy has provided critical assistance to an Iranian fishing vessel and successfully tackled a fire onboard a merchant ship in separate incidents.

The Iranian Fishing Vessel (FV) Ameen, carrying six Iranian crew members, encountered distress east of Duqm due to damages sustained from an alleged collision with a merchant vessel. The FV suffered extensive damage, including a breach in its hull leading to water ingress. Responding promptly to the distress call, an Indian Naval ship deployed in the North Arabian Sea for maritime security operations rushed to aid. The Bharatiya Navy provided damage control assistance and reinforced the hull, ensuring the safety of the vessel for further transit. Additionally, medical aid was extended to three injured crew members, highlighting the Bharatiya Navy’s commitment to the safety of all vessels and seafarers in the region.

In a separate incident earlier in January, the firefighting team of another Bharatiya Navy warship, INS Visakhapatnam, successfully contained a fire onboard the merchant vessel Marlin Luanda. Responding to a distress call, INS Vishakhapatnam swiftly provided assistance to the merchant vessel. Accompanied by the crew of MV Marlin Luanda, the Bharatiya Navy’s firefighting team battled the blaze, bringing it under control after six hours of intense efforts. The coordinated response from the Bharatiya Navy, along with assistance from US and French warships, underscores the collective commitment to ensuring the safety of merchant shippers and seafarers.

The Bharatiya Navy’s proactive approach to maritime emergencies reaffirms its dedication to safeguarding vessels and crew members navigating through challenging waters. With specialized personnel and equipment, the Bharatiya Navy remains vigilant in responding to distress calls and mitigating risks to maritime operations. These recent incidents highlight the crucial role played by naval forces in maintaining maritime security and upholding the safety of global maritime trade routes.
