Three Union ministers are scheduled to hold the third round of talks with farmers’ leaders in Chandigarh amid the ‘Delhi Chalo’ protest, which has led to a standoff at the Haryana and Punjab borders.
Several major farmers’ unions, including Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ugrahan) and BKU Dakaunda (Dhaner faction), have announced a ‘rail roko’ in Punjab on February 15, expressing solidarity with ongoing protests demanding a minimum support price (MSP) for crops.
The Samyukt Kisan Morcha, representing 37 farm unions, supported the protests, condemning the “condemnable use of violence” against farmers. BKU (Ugrahan) plans to block train tracks in Punjab from 12 pm to 4 pm on Thursday.
The rail roko protest is expected to impact nearly 10 locations, affecting railway lines such as Amritsar-Jalandhar-Delhi, Mansa-Bathinda-Delhi, and Ludhiana-Ferozepur. Protest sites include Rajpura, Sunam, Jethuke village, Moga, Mansa, Malaut, Valla railway crossing, Barnala, Sangrur, and Budhlada.
The Punjab-Haryana border standoff continues with clashes between protesters and security forces. Three Union ministers, including Arjun Munda, Piyush Goyal, and Nityanand Rai, will meet farmers’ leaders in Chandigarh, while Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Agriculture Minister Arjun Munda discuss farmers’ issues in New Delhi. The situation remains tense, with disruptions reported at Delhi’s Singhu border.
