The arrest of a US-Russian woman was announced by Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) in Yekaterinburg on suspicion of raising funds for the Ukrainian Army.
The incident happened at a time of ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, as well as complexities in US-Russia relations.
The FSB arrested the 33-year-old woman, a citizen residing in Los Angeles, for her involvement in illegal activities. and the woman’s identity remains undisclosed. ‘The woman was collecting funds aimed at purchasing tactical medical items, equipment, weapons, and ammunition for the Ukrainian armed forces’, according to the FSB statement.
This action, conducted while she was in the United States, is deemed as working against Russia’s national security interests.
Media outlets shared a video released by the FSB, which showed officers directing the woman, who was wearing a white coat and a hat covering her eyes, in handcuffs. Treason carries severe penalties in Russia, with a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in prison.
