Former Bharatiya cricketer Aakash Chopra has expressed his optimism about Rishabh Pant’s return to the cricket field, particularly in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. Speaking on his official YouTube channel, Chopra hailed Pant’s remarkable recovery from injury, stating that it’s “miraculous” considering the challenges he faced.
Pant, who plays as a wicketkeeper-batter, had encountered multiple injuries due to a vehicle accident towards the end of 2022. Chopra, aged 46, revealed his relief at seeing Pant after the accident, emphasizing the significance of life beyond cricket. He acknowledged the arduous journey Pant must have undertaken to regain his fitness, highlighting the loneliness and challenges associated with rehabilitation.
Chopra expressed his happiness at the possibility of Pant donning the Delhi Capitals (DC) jersey in IPL 2024. He speculated that Pant, aged 26, would not only contribute with his batting prowess but also lead the team. The former India opener highlighted Pant’s ability to solve a crucial problem for DC by batting lower down the order, as most of their key players occupy top-order positions.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had provided a fitness update on Pant last July, confirming that he had commenced batting and keeping in the nets, signifying significant progress in his rehabilitation. Pant has been associated with DC since 2016, amassing 2,838 runs in 98 matches at an impressive average of 34.61 and a striking rate exceeding 147. His performance includes a century and 15 half-centuries, showcasing his potential as a match-winner.
Pant’s potential return to IPL action has garnered attention from cricket enthusiasts, who eagerly anticipate his comeback on the field. With his explosive batting style and leadership skills, Pant could prove to be a valuable asset for DC in their quest for IPL glory. As the countdown to IPL 2024 begins, all eyes will be on Pant as he aims to make a triumphant return to the cricketing arena.
