Gareth Edwards, the director known for “Rogue One,” is in talks to direct a new “Jurassic World” movie for Universal Studios, according to a report by Variety. This news comes shortly after negotiations with David Leitch fell through. Steven Spielberg will be an executive producer for the film through Amblin Entertainment. Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley will produce, along with David Leitch and Kelly McCormick from 87North. David Koepp, who wrote the original “Jurassic Park” movies, will be writing the script.
The new “Jurassic World” movie, scheduled to release on July 2, 2025, will introduce a fresh storyline to the long-running dinosaur franchise. It’s uncertain if stars like Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Neill, Laura Dern, or Jeff Goldblum will return for this installment. The franchise, which began with Spielberg’s “Jurassic Park” in 1993, has earned over $6 billion globally. The most recent film, “Jurassic World Dominion” in 2022, grossed over $1 billion worldwide.
David Koepp, the screenwriter for iconic movies like “Mission: Impossible” and “Spider-Man,” will be responsible for crafting the script for the new “Jurassic World” film. Koepp is represented by CAA and attorney David Fox at Myman Greenspan Fineman Fox Rosenberg and Light.
Gareth Edwards’ previous works include “Monsters” in 2010 and “Godzilla” in 2014.
