Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked a significant milestone in Gujarat’s Dwarka on Sunday as he inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for a slew of development projects collectively valued at over Rs 4150 crore. The event showcased the commitment to infrastructure enhancement and healthcare expansion in the region.
The inauguration ceremony witnessed Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel felicitating PM Modi with a miniature of Dwarkadhish temple, underscoring the cultural significance of the region.
One of the key projects inaugurated by the Prime Minister involved a pipeline project at Vadinar, entailing the replacement of existing offshore lines, abandoning the existing pipeline end manifold (PLEM), and relocating the entire system to a nearby new location. The move is poised to bring about significant improvements in the region’s infrastructure.
PM Modi also embarked on a mission to enhance healthcare infrastructure across the nation, inaugurating and laying the foundation stone for 200 healthcare projects valued at over Rs 11,500 crore in 23 states and Union territories. The highlight of this initiative includes the inauguration of five All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Rajkot (Gujarat), Bathinda (Punjab), Raebareli (Uttar Pradesh), Kalyani (West Bengal), and Mangalagiri (Andhra Pradesh).
In addition, the Prime Minister dedicated a medical college of JIPMER at Karaikal, Puducherry, and a 300-bed satellite centre of the Post Graduate Institute of Medical and Educational Research (PGIMER) in Sangrur, Punjab, among other healthcare projects scattered nationwide.
A notable inauguration earlier in the day was the ‘Sudarshan Setu,’ a 2.32 km-long cable-stayed bridge connecting the Okha mainland and the Beyt Dwarka island. Built at a cost of around Rs 980 crore, it stands as the longest cable-stayed bridge in the country. The bridge’s distinctive design features a footpath adorned with verses from the Bhagavad Gita and images of Lord Krishna on both sides. Solar panels installed on the upper portions of the footpath generate one megawatt of electricity.
Before Sudarshan Setu’s construction, pilgrims had to rely on boat transport to reach Beyt Dwarka. The bridge not only symbolizes connectivity but also integrates cultural elements into its design.
PM Modi’s visit to Gujarat commenced with a vibrant roadshow in Jamnagar on Saturday, setting the tone for a two-day engagement that emphasizes the government’s commitment to overall development and infrastructure improvement in the state and beyond.
