On February 28, 1931, the legendary freedom fighter Chandrashekhar Azad passed away. He was born in a small village of Bhavra in Jhabua district in Madhya Pradesh on July 23, 1906. At a young age, Chandrasekhar Azad became involved in revolutionary activities. Azad always desired full independence for India. In 1921, he enlisted in Mahatma Gandhi's non-cooperation movement in protest against the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Captured by the British at the age of 15, he endured imprisonment for the first time and received 15 lashes as punishment. He participated in the Kakori Train Robbery of 1925 and, in 1928, he avenged Lala Lajpat Rai's murder in Lahore by shooting J.P. Saunders. Azad fought valiantly, but when he saw no other way out, he shot himself to keep his promise of not being captured alive.
