An FIR was registered at Sahnewal police station after it was alleged the idols of gods had been vandalized in a Shiv temple in the wee hours of Tuesday.
Members of Hindu outfits staged a protest in the morning to seek the arrest of the culprits. The FIR includes charges of hurting religious sentiments. The outfits have given a final notice of four days to the police to trace the accused.
They said if the accused were not arrested in four days, they would stage protests and hand over damaged idols to the commissioner of police and deputy commissioner as a mark of protest.
Rajiv Tandon, chairman of Shiv Sena Punjab, said the matter came to light when the priest of the temple reached there.
Inspector Guljinder Singh, SHO of Sahnewal police station, confirmed the FIR. He stated that they were scanning CCTV footage to identify the accused.
