In a significant development, Bharat has marked its presence in the global semiconductor sector, receiving investment proposals worth Rs 2.50 lakh crore from renowned chip makers worldwide. Union Minister of State for Electronics & Technology, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, made this announcement at the ‘Viksit Bharat Ambassador Meet’ held in Pune. He highlighted Bharat’s transformation into a beacon of hope, citing inclusive policies and economic growth as key factors.
Chandrasekhar emphasized Bharat’s remarkable journey over the past decade, moving from the ‘Fragile Five’ to becoming the world’s fifth-largest economy. He attributed this success to the country’s inclusive policies and efficient governance, positioning Bharat as an inspiration for nations globally. He reiterated the government’s commitment to further progress, aiming to achieve ‘Viksit Bharat’ status in the coming years.
The minister recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement of a semiconductor policy in 2022, which garnered immediate global attention. This policy initiative has propelled Bharat onto the semiconductor map, attracting significant interest from major players in the industry. Chandrasekhar highlighted the rapid strides Bharat has made, transitioning into a key player in the semiconductor ecosystem within just two years.
Speaking to reporters at the event, Chandrasekhar underscored the transformative impact of the semiconductor policy, noting its role in positioning Bharat as a fast-emerging semiconductor nation. He expressed optimism about the country’s trajectory in this sector, emphasizing that Bharat’s absence in the global semiconductor ecosystem just two years ago has now been replaced by substantial investment interest from international semiconductor majors.
The surge in investment proposals signifies a vote of confidence in Bharat’s capabilities and potential to contribute significantly to the semiconductor industry. With the government’s proactive policies and conducive business environment, Bharat is poised to leverage this momentum to strengthen its position as a leading player in the global semiconductor market. As the nation continues on its path towards ‘Viksit Bharat,’ the semiconductor sector emerges as a key driver of economic growth and technological advancement, propelling Bharat into a new era of innovation and development.
