Congress stalwart Kamal Nath, amidst swirling speculations regarding his potential switch to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), assured party workers in Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh, that he would not force his presence on them. Speaking at a gathering in Harrai, Nath, a seasoned politician at 77, expressed his willingness to step aside if the party members wished so, acknowledging their longstanding support and trust.
“I am here because of your love and trust over the years. If you believe it’s time for Kamal Nath to bid farewell, I respect your decision. I do not wish to impose myself,” remarked the former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, addressing the crowd.
Nath, whose son Nakul Nath serves as a Lok Sabha member from the Chhindwara constituency, had previously confirmed that Nakul would contest from the same seat in the upcoming elections. The senior Nath, who holds the Chhindwara assembly seat, reassured party workers amidst a backdrop of BJP’s aggressive projection, urging them not to succumb to panic.
“While the BJP may project itself assertively, we must stay focused on securing our future through our votes. I trust all of you in this endeavor,” affirmed Nath, rallying the Congress supporters.
Addressing a significant political issue, Nath emphasized that the recently constructed Lord Ram temple in Ayodhya belonged to all citizens, dismissing any singular ownership claims by the BJP. “Does the BJP own the Ram temple? It belongs to all, including me. The temple was built with public funds, following a verdict by the Supreme Court. Merely being in power does not grant sole credit for its construction,” he stated.
Asserting his own religious beliefs, Nath highlighted his reverence for Lord Ram and his contribution to preserving cultural heritage. “I worship Lord Ram and have erected a substantial temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman on my land in Chhindwara. We uphold our religious traditions and cultural values,” he affirmed.
Amidst speculations fueled primarily by media reports suggesting a possible shift to the BJP camp, Nath categorically denied such claims on Tuesday, labeling them as a mere creation of the media. “You (media) are the ones making such speculations. Have you ever heard me confirm this? You report the news and then seek my response. I urge you to refute these unfounded speculations,” he emphasized during interactions with reporters.
Nath’s unequivocal stance and reassurance to Congress workers come amidst a charged political atmosphere in Madhya Pradesh, setting the tone for upcoming electoral battles while dispelling rumors surrounding his political allegiance.
