The Trinamool Congress on Thursday suspended Sheikh Shahjahan, the main accused of the Sandeshkhali case where many women have been sexually assaulted for days and their land was grabbed.
Hours after his arrest by the West Bengal Police, the party announced the decision to suspend Shahjahan from the party for six years. Sheikh Shahjahan will lose all party posts that the TMC strongman used to hold.
Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Sheikh Shahjahan who is the prime accused in the Sandeshkhali case, has been arrested by the West Bengal Police.
Shahjahan in the Sandeshkhali case was absconding for over 55 days and is now finally arrested from the Minakhan area in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal in a late-night operation.
BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari was stopped from reaching Sandeshkhali this morning and demanded the case be transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
He said, “Transfer this case to CBI. The people of Sandeshkhali want justice. I have full faith in the judiciary that it will give justice to the people”.
‘There will be a public meeting in Rajbari on March 10. Thousands of people will come, he added.
After the arrest, Sheikh Shahjahan said, ‘On assuming that ED could arrest me, I Called the people and ordered them to attack ED & CRPF Jawans’.
The documents presented by the Police in the Court mention the confession of Sheikh Shahjahan.
Sheikh Shahjahan confessed in the cross-examination that he instructed to seize the belongings so that ED couldn’t investigate and carry on their raid operations.
The Chief Justice said that over 42 cases are pending and the accused had been absconding for more than 20 days.
‘You have a vakalatnama means his whereabouts are known’, said the CJ. The High Court stated, “Let him be arrested. For the next 10 years, this person will keep you very busy. You won’t have any time for any other brief. 42 cases have been registered against him, he has been absconding as well. You come on Monday. We have got no sympathy for that person”.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Government of India will take up the investigation of the attack on Enforcement Directorate officials during the raid on TMC leader Sheikh Shahjahan. The CID officials will interrogate Sheikh Shahjahan at Bhawani Bhavan police headquarters, where he has been taken after his arrest and after being produced in court.
