Former Michigan Wolverines football player, Craig Roe, has tragically passed away after battling stage IV colon cancer. His wife, Chelsea, shared the heartbreaking news on his social media account. Roe kept his illness private, focusing instead on his work and family. He leaves behind his wife and their young son, Max.
Roe had an impressive football career, starting from his high school days at Chaparral High School in Arizona. He was highly regarded, earning the title of Gatorade Player of the Year in Arizona before joining the Michigan Wolverines in 2008. Throughout his time at Michigan from 2009 to 2012, Roe made a significant impact, setting a record with 51 consecutive starts.
One of Roe’s most memorable moments came during a game against Illinois in 2010. His crucial play helped secure a triple-overtime victory for the Wolverines. Michigan head coach, Sherrone Moore, expressed sadness over Roe’s passing, remembering him as a dedicated player and extending condolences to his family.
Tributes poured in from Roe’s former teammates and friends, including NFL star Taylor Lewan, who credited Roe with changing his life for the better. Roe’s teammates from Michigan also honored his memory, highlighting his positive impact both on and off the field.
Following his football career, Roe pursued opportunities in tech startups and coaching, eventually settling in Texas with his family. Despite his achievements, Roe’s legacy will be remembered most for his kindness and determination.
