The Meghalaya Multi-Sectoral Project for Adolescent Wellbeing Empowerment and Resilience or MPOWER, led by the Meghalaya Government, has inked a deal with the 1M1B Foundation to inaugurate the State’s inaugural Green Skills Academy in Shillong. This landmark initiative aims to propel the adoption of green skills among the youth in Meghalaya, marking a significant step towards sustainable development.
Under the partnership, the goal is to train 100,000 youths from the State by 2029, with the top 10 individuals each year earning the opportunity to showcase their work at the annual 1M1B summit held at the United Nations in New York.
The agreement signing ceremony took place at the Additional Secretariat in Shillong in the presence of key dignitaries including Information Technology & Communication department Development Commissioner-Principal Secretary Sampath Kumar and Commissioner-Secretary Pravin Bakshi along with 1M1B Green Skills & Sustainability Programme Manager Deepika Venkatesh.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, envisioning the MPOWER, aims to unlock the full potential of the State’s youth by facilitating their transition from school to work. This comprehensive project emphasises holistic support for health and well-being, thereby fostering long-term sustainable development in Meghalaya.
The 1M1B Green Skills Academy targets college students above 18 years of age, providing them with the necessary skill set, mindset, and toolsets required in an evolving green economy. The curriculum combines theoretical knowledge with practical projects, workplace experiences, internships, and job readiness mentoring, fostering a dynamic learning environment.
Moreover, the academy will offer specialised training in areas such as artificial intelligence, sustainable design, data analysis, and project management, empowering participants to excel in diverse fields within the green economy.
Expressing his pleasure at the collaboration, CM Sangma remarked, “It is a pleasure to collaborate with 1M1B in establishing the 1M1B Green Skills Academy here at Meghalaya, aimed at accelerating the adoption of green skills among our college youth in our State.”
