This Saturday morning, parts of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) were greeted with light rainfall. Alongside, the minimum temperature saw a notable increase, reaching 18.2 degrees Celsius. This surge of warmth, standing five degrees above the usual, marked a significant shift from Friday’s cooler temperature of 10.8 degrees.
Weather experts attribute this rise in temperature to a heavy cloud cover that enveloped the region since Friday night. The presence of these clouds acts as a barrier, hindering the escape of heat from the surface. Consequently, it impacts the minimum temperature, causing it to rise, as explained by officials from the weather department.
IMD Forecast: More Showers Expected
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi-NCR and adjacent areas of Haryana and West Uttar Pradesh are anticipated to experience further showers throughout the day. IMD officials predict rain in most places, accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph. Additionally, there’s a possibility of isolated hailstorms in a few areas.
The New Delhi Regional Meteorological Centre issued a forecast indicating the likelihood of light to moderate rainfall and gusty winds ranging between 30-50 Km/h in various parts of Delhi and NCR, including Safdarjung, Lodi Road, IGI Airport, Loni Dehat, Hindon AF Station, Bahadurgarh, Ghaziabad, and Indirapuram.
This weather pattern is attributed to the influence of western disturbances, as per meteorological experts. The forecast suggests a chance of drizzle persisting into Sunday morning, with clearer skies expected by Monday.
Air Quality Improvement
Meanwhile, there’s some positive news on the air quality front. The Air Quality Index (AQI) has shown significant improvement, standing at 140 (moderate) compared to Friday’s reading of 208 (poor), according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) national bulletin. Additionally, the Air Quality Early Warning System for Delhi (AQEWS) anticipates further improvements in air quality.
The AQEWS morning bulletin forecasts the air quality to be in the satisfactory category on Saturday and moderate on Monday and Tuesday. Looking ahead, the air quality is expected to remain in the moderate category for the subsequent six days.
As the region braces for more rainfall and fluctuations in temperature, residents are advised to stay updated with weather forecasts and take necessary precautions to ensure their well-being and safety.
