As election fervor escalates, Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) state President Ravinder Raina announced on Monday the party’s decision to refrain from forming any pre or post-poll alliances for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. “We will contest all five seats in Jammu and Kashmir, showcasing our robust presence throughout the region,” stated Raina, highlighting the party’s deep connection with the people and readiness to confront opponents in the upcoming elections. He stressed the undeniable bond between the party and the electorate and their preparedness to face adversaries in the polls, which will be conducted in multiple phases.
Raina emphasized that the BJP will rely solely on its strengths throughout the electoral process. He dismissed any possibilities of alliances and expressed confidence in Prime Minister Modi’s dedication to Kashmir’s development. Raina affirmed the BJP’s intention to independently contest assembly elections once scheduled by the Election Commission of Bharat.
While candidates for two seats in Jammu have been declared, decisions for the remaining three seats in Kashmir are pending and will be disclosed soon. Raina anticipated the overwhelming support for PM Modi among the electorate to be reflected in their voting decisions.
Speaking about Prime Minister Modi’s upcoming visit to Kashmir on March 7th, Raina emphasized its significance for the valley, mentioning the anticipation for the rally at Bakshi Stadium, expected to draw around 200,000 attendees. He recalled past visits by former PMs Vajpayee and Modi, underlining their impact on the region.
Reflecting on PM Modi’s engagements with Kashmir, Raina highlighted the substantial aid provided during the 2014 floods and ongoing infrastructure projects like the Zojila tunnel, which signify progress under Modi’s leadership.
Raina also revealed BJP’s development agenda in Kashmir, pointing to initiatives such as the AIIMS hospital in Awantipora and medical colleges in Anantnag and Handwara.
The elections are expected to proceed in multiple phases, with decisions regarding the remaining three seats in Kashmir forthcoming. Raina concluded by reiterating the party’s commitment to contesting independently and its confidence in securing support from the electorate, particularly in light of PM Modi’s strong leadership and developmental initiatives in the region.
