Randeep Hooda’s Film ‘Swatantrya Veer Savarkar’ Set to Release on March 22

Bharatiya audiences are eagerly anticipating the release of the film ‘Swatantrya Veer Savarkar’, starring Randeep Hooda, scheduled to hit screens on March 22, 2024. The excitement is palpable, with the trailer’s visual snippet trending at the top spot on YouTube just 18 hours after its release.

Savarkar’s Legacy in Films and Plays

Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, a prominent figure in Bharat’s freedom movement and the ideological inspiration behind Hindutva, has been the subject of various films and plays exploring his life and contributions. Besides being known as a firebrand revolutionary, Savarkar had artistic inclinations, writing acclaimed poems like ‘Sagara’ and ‘Jayostute’, along with plays such as ‘Usshapa’ and ‘Sanyasatakhadga’.

Savarkar’s Interest in Cinema

Contrary to Mahatma Gandhi’s reservations about cinema, Savarkar embraced the medium, considering it a modern marvel. He even visited film studios to understand the technological advancements of the time. Savarkar’s curiosity led him to contribute terms like ‘Chitrapat-Gruha’ for theatre and ‘Dhwani-Mudran’ for sound recording to the Marathi language lexicon.

Savarkar’s Views on Nationalism in Cinema

Savarkar believed cinema could reflect nationalism and inspire youth. He emphasized the importance of portraying Bharat’s positive aspects to uplift audiences. His contrasting outlook with Gandhi’s skepticism about cinema highlighted their differing perspectives on art and modernity.

Notable Films on Savarkar

Several films and plays have depicted Savarkar’s life and legacy. ‘Veer Savarkar’, a documentary produced by the Government of Bharat in 1983, was the first cinematic portrayal of his journey. Other notable films like ‘Kaala Paani’ (1996) and ‘Veer Savarkar’ (2001) have contributed to preserving his memory.

Portrayal in Marathi Theatre

Marathi theatre has also embraced Savarkar’s story, with plays like ‘Kritagya Mi! Kritarth Mi!’ and ‘Challenge’ exploring different facets of his life. These productions shed light on his personal relationships and revolutionary ideologies, contributing to his multifaceted portrayal in the arts.

In conclusion, ‘Swatantrya Veer Savarkar’ adds to the rich tapestry of cinematic and theatrical interpretations of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar’s life, serving as a reminder of his enduring influence on Bharatiya culture and nationalism.
