Sikkim Bhutia Lepcha Apex Committee general secretary and vice president Sangay Gyatso Bhutia has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He took the decision amid the backdrop of the State grappling with a severe revenue deficit crisis and believes only through the BJP’s intervention can the Northeastern State effectively tackle its economic and constitutional challenges.
Expressing a sense of urgency, Bhutia stressed, “Sikkim’s woes demand immediate attention. The BJP’s proven track record and its vision for the region inspire confidence that our longstanding issues, including the protection of Article 371 F and economic downturns, can be effectively addressed.”
Bhutia criticised the prolonged dominance of regional parties in Sikkim, accusing them of neglecting constitutional mandates and exacerbating the State’s vulnerabilities. “The solution lies with the Centre,” Bhutia said highlighting BJP’s commitment to upholding Sikkim’s unique constitutional provisions.
Pointing to the BJP’s proactive measures, even outside of power, Bhutia cited the e-Shram portal as evidence of the party’s dedication to the welfare of Sikkimese. He noted that over 71,000 individuals from Sikkim have benefited from BJP’s welfare schemes.
With an eye on the upcoming legislative elections, Bhutia expressed optimism about a potential shift in Sikkim’s political landscape, confidently stating, “This time, BJP will ascend to power in Sikkim.”
Addressing concerns regarding allegations against the BJP, Bhutia urged trust in the party’s integrity, stating, “Sikkim has recognised that the BJP is the catalyst for change. While allegations may arise, our people understand that the BJP is steadfast in its commitment to their welfare.”
