After days of speculation, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has officially formed an alliance with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Jana Sena Party in Andhra Pradesh. The confirmation came from TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu during a media interaction, where he expressed confidence in the alliance’s prospects in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
According to reports, the alliance between BJP, TDP, and Jana Sena has been finalized for both the Andhra Pradesh state elections and the Lok Sabha polls, which are anticipated to occur simultaneously. The parties are expected to release a joint statement soon, with a media conference scheduled for March 17 to officially announce the alliance.
Naidu emphasized the significance of the alliance, stating, “Andhra Pradesh has been destroyed badly. The BJP and the TDP coming together is a win-win situation for the country and the state.” He also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and expressed optimism about the upcoming elections.
The alliance aims to secure a significant victory in Andhra Pradesh, with the parties expressing confidence in their ability to outperform the ruling YSR Congress. The agreement was reached following intense negotiations and a second round of talks involving senior leaders from all three parties.
Sources familiar with the matter revealed that the BJP and Jana Sena will jointly contest approximately 8 and 30 Lok Sabha and Assembly seats in Andhra Pradesh, respectively. Meanwhile, the TDP will contest the remaining 17 Lok Sabha and 145 Assembly seats.
The finalization of the deal occurred during discussions between Chandrababu Naidu, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP president J P Nadda, and Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan. Negotiations primarily focused on seat sharing for both Assembly and Lok Sabha polls, with the BJP initially seeking 10 seats in the Lok Sabha elections.
However, the TDP asserted its position as the primary opposition party in the state, leading to compromises and a consensus among all parties involved. With the alliance now in place, the focus shifts to campaigning and mobilizing support ahead of the elections.
