This Day In The History | Yuri Gagarin’s Birth Anniversary | ‘Maitri Setu’ inaugurated
Yuri Gagarin was born on March 9, 1934. He was the first human to journey into space. At just 27, on April 12, 1961, Gagarin embarked on a flight aboard the spacecraft Vostok 1. This marked the Soviet Union's victory over the United States in the space race. Gagarin's successful return to Earth solidified this victory. His journey aimed to answer various scientific questions about space exploration, including whether humans could survive in space, the feasibility of space travel, and the safety of spacecraft reentry. Gagarin's expedition provided answers to these inquiries. Despite being relatively unknown before his spaceflight, Gagarin became a national hero upon his safe return to Earth. Following this, he traveled to several countries, including Britain, Iceland, Cuba, Brazil, Canada, Hungary, and India, to enhance the Soviet Union's global standing. Sadly, on March 27, 1968, at the age of 34, Gagarin's plane crashed during a test flight, resulting in his and his co-pilot's deaths.
