In a significant development for the upcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has solidified its seat-sharing agreement with the Chandrababu Naidu-led Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Pawan Kalyan’s Jana Sena Party (JSP). TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu announced the formation of a ‘formidable seat-sharing formula’ among the alliance partners during a meeting in Amaravati.
The agreement outlines that the BJP will contest on six Lok Sabha seats, while the TDP will vie for 17 seats. Pawan Kalyan’s Jana Sena Party will contest on the remaining two Lok Sabha seats. In the Assembly polls, the BJP is set to contest on 10 seats, the TDP on 144 seats, and the JSP on 21 seats. The alliance aims to create a unified front under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The joint statement issued by the parties highlighted the dynamic and visionary leadership of PM Modi and emphasized their collective decision to contest both Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections together. The names of the specific seats each party will contest are yet to be announced and will be disclosed by the respective parties in the future.
The return of TDP to the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) fold was finalized in a meeting in Delhi on March 9, following discussions between BJP leaders Amit Shah and JP Nadda, and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. The subsequent meeting in Amaravati involved key figures like Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekawat, BJP national vice president Baijayant Panda, TDP chief Naidu, and JSP president Pawan Kalyan, finalizing the seat-sharing formula.
Notably, TDP was previously part of the BJP-led NDA until 2018 but expressed interest in reviving the alliance after facing a significant defeat in the 2019 elections. With Andhra Pradesh holding 25 Lok Sabha seats and 175 Assembly seats, the alliance aims to secure a historic mandate for the betterment of the state. The Lok Sabha polls are expected to take place in April-May.
