Kolkata, West Bengal welcomed another addition to its railway network as the Vande Bharat Express commenced its journey between New Jalpaiguri and Patna, Bihar. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the service via video conferencing, signaling the departure of the inaugural train from New Jalpaiguri station. This train is part of the 10 Vande Bharat Express trains launched by the Prime Minister from Ahmedabad.
The new semi-high-speed train serves as a crucial link between Patna, the capital of Bihar, and Siliguri, a key city in North Bengal acting as a gateway to the northeastern states. With its introduction, West Bengal now boasts a total of six Vande Bharat Express trains, highlighting the region’s growing connectivity and development.
Starting March 14, the Vande Bharat Express will operate on a regular schedule between New Jalpaiguri and Patna. Departing from New Jalpaiguri at 5.15 am, the train will reach Patna Junction by 12.10 pm on the same day. Its return journey from Patna Junction will commence at 1.00 pm, arriving back at New Jalpaiguri by 8 pm, providing a convenient and efficient travel option for commuters.
The train route traverses through Kishanganj and Katihar from both ends, covering a distance of 471 km on either side in approximately seven hours. The Vande Bharat Express consists of eight coaches with a seating capacity of 530 passengers, comprising one executive class, five chair cars, and two driver trail coaches, ensuring comfort and accessibility for travelers.
In addition to the Vande Bharat Express, Prime Minister Modi also inaugurated a new express train connecting Asansol in West Bengal to Hatia in Jharkhand via virtual mode. This train, passing through Giridih, offers passengers a unique experience with a vistadome coach, allowing them to enjoy the scenic beauty of the region while traveling, further enhancing the railway services in the area.
