Union Home Minister Amit Shah criticized the Congress for opposing the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), alleging it ignored national interest for political motives. Shah emphasized that the CAA, recently implemented by the Centre, aimed to provide citizenship to persecuted minorities from neighboring countries, fulfilling a long-standing promise.
Addressing BJP social media volunteers in Hyderabad, Shah highlighted the significance of the CAA, which grants citizenship to Hindu migrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan, among others. He asserted that the Congress’ opposition to the CAA stemmed from appeasement and vote-bank politics rather than genuine concern for persecuted individuals seeking refuge in Bharat.
Shah emphasized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to providing a dignified life to refugees by granting them Bharatiya citizenship. He reiterated that the CAA aims to protect and provide equal rights to those escaping religious persecution in neighboring countries.
The Home Minister accused the Congress of neglecting the plight of Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi, and Christian refugees, who faced persecution in Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. He asserted that the CAA rectifies this injustice by offering them Indian nationality and equal rights.
Shah urged BJP supporters to highlight the achievements of the Modi government, including the implementation of key manifesto promises such as the abrogation of Article 370 and the scrapping of triple talaq. He urged digital warriors to play an active role in promoting the government’s accomplishments ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Addressing concerns about the CAA, Shah reassured minorities that the law does not strip anyone of their citizenship but instead aims to grant citizenship to persecuted non-Muslim migrants. He emphasized that there is no provision in the CAA to revoke anyone’s citizenship.
Shah expressed confidence in the BJP’s prospects in Telangana, setting a target to win at least 12 out of the 17 Lok Sabha seats in the state during the upcoming general elections. He predicted a significant victory for the BJP nationally, aiming to surpass the 400-seat mark in the elections.
In conclusion, Home Minister Amit Shah reiterated the government’s commitment to upholding the rights of persecuted minorities and accused the Congress of obstructing efforts to provide refuge to those in need through the CAA.
