A significant breakthrough has been made in the investigation of the Bengaluru Rameshwaram Cafe blast case as the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has apprehended a key suspect named Shabbir from Bellary district in Karnataka. The suspect is currently in custody and undergoing interrogation by the anti-terror agency.
The blast, which occurred on March 1 at the popular cafe in Bengaluru, left ten people injured. The explosion was caused by a low-intensity improvised explosive device (IED) that was detonated using a timer.
The arrest of Shabbir follows extensive scrutiny of CCTV footage released by the police, which captured the main suspect in the act. On the day of the blast, CCTV footage showed the suspect, believed to be around 30 years old, carrying a plate of idli inside the cafe, with a shoulder bag suspected to contain the IED.
Subsequent CCTV footage revealed the suspect changing his appearance multiple times following the explosion. In one instance, he was seen wearing a full-sleeve shirt, a light-colored polo cap, eyeglasses, and a face mask. In another video, he sported a purple-colored half-sleeve T-shirt and a black cap, without glasses but still wearing the mask. In a third video, he was observed without the cap or glasses.
The NIA had offered a reward of Rs 10 lakh for any information leading to the arrest of the suspect. The diligent investigation by the authorities has led to the apprehension of Shabbir, a significant development in the case.
