Bharat’s top shuttlers will be in action on Thursday at the prestigious All England Open badminton championships as the round of 16 stage got underway.
First up, two-time Olympics medallist PV Sindhu suffered a straight games defeat against An Se Yong.
She faced the toughest test there is in women’s singles and gave it a good fight in the opener but the challenge fizzled out in the end.
Sindhu now trails Se Young 0-7 in their Head-to-Head. There is a clear Fab Four in women’s singles badminton currently.
Tai Tzu Ying has a bag of tricks, Akane Yamaguchi is like the Energizer Bunny on the court, able to defend most things thrown at her.
Chen Yufei, the reigning Olympic champion, has the footwork that helps her cover the corners of the court with efficient ease.
On Thursday at the All England Open badminton championships, PV Sindhu would find that out for herself once more. The Bharatiya went down 19-21, 11-21 in 42 minutes for her seventh defeat in as many matches against the Korean.
The World No 1 and the reigning World Champion, the outright favourite for Paris 2024 gold, is the most in-form player in the world over the last year.
Around 7.30pm IST will be Lakshya Sen vs Anders Antonsen. Tanisha-Ashwini will be in action after that, followed by Satwik-Chirag later in the night.
An Se Young said it was an ‘honour’ to share the court with PV Sindhu in Birmingham.
