In preparation for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has revealed the allocation of seats among its allies in Bihar. The agreement, announced by NDA leaders on Monday, outlines the distribution of seats among the Janata Dal (United) [JD-U], Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), along with other smaller allies.
According to the arrangement, the BJP is set to contest 17 seats, while the JD-U will field candidates in 16 constituencies, and the LJP will contest in 5 seats. Additionally, two other NDA allies, namely Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) and Rashtriya Lok Morha led by Upendra Kushwaha, have secured one seat each in Bihar.
Seat Allocation Breakdown
The BJP, being the largest constituent of the alliance, has been assigned significant constituencies including West Champaran, East Champaran, Muzaffarpur, and Patna Sahib among others. On the other hand, JD-U will field candidates in seats such as Valmiki Nagar, Siwan, and Nalanda, while the LJP will focus on constituencies like Vaishali and Hajipur.
Leadership and Factional Dynamics
Notably, the Bihar LJP, led by Ram Vilas Paswan’s son Chirag Paswan, has been allotted the Hajipur Lok Sabha seat under the seat-sharing pact. However, the faction led by Union Minister Pashupati Paras did not find mention in the agreement. Talks are reportedly ongoing with Paras’s faction, indicating ongoing negotiations within the alliance.
Election Schedule and Expectations
With the Election Commission announcing the schedule for the Lok Sabha elections, Bihar is gearing up for voting across seven phases from April 19 to June 1. The state will witness polling on April 19, April 26, May 7, May 13, May 20, May 25, and June 1. Results are anticipated to be declared on June 4, marking the culmination of the electoral process.
The seat-sharing pact among NDA allies in Bihar sets the stage for a keenly contested electoral battle, with each party gearing up to secure its respective constituencies. As the election dates draw closer, political dynamics are expected to intensify, shaping the landscape of Bihar’s electoral politics for the foreseeable future.
