Union Minister and senior BJP leader Kiren Rijiju has expressed unwavering confidence in securing a fourth consecutive term from the Arunachal West Parliamentary seat, dismissing speculations of anti-incumbency sentiments against him.
Rijiju, who currently serves as the Union Earth Sciences Minister, asserted that political opposition is inherent in a democratic setup and does not necessarily indicate anti-incumbency. He highlighted his track record of tangible development initiatives across Arunachal Pradesh, stating that real voters shape electoral outcomes.
Addressing concerns over anti-incumbency, Rijiju remarked, “There is nothing called anti-incumbency. It is a part of democracy where some people will always oppose you.”
He cited his resounding victory in the 2019 elections as evidence of public support.
The BJP stalwart, who secured a substantial victory margin of 1,74,843 votes in the 2019 elections, accentuated his extensive contributions to the region’s development. Rijiju underscored his efforts in providing essential infrastructure and healthcare facilities, including equipping district hospitals and public health centres.
Reflecting on his ambitious development agenda, Rijiju highlighted initiatives such as the Frontier Highway and the Trans Arunachal Highway, aimed at enhancing connectivity and economic opportunities in the region. He attributed the slow progress of certain projects to logistical challenges but expressed confidence in overcoming the issue.
Looking ahead to the upcoming elections scheduled for April 19, Rijiju stressed upon the importance of continuity in the developmental agenda set forth by the Narendra Modi Government. He expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for his support and reiterated his commitment to fulfilling the aspirations of the electorate.
Addressing concerns over party ticket allocations, Rijiju mentioned about the BJP’s strategic decision-making process, aimed at broader service beyond electoral mandates. He highlighted the party’s efforts to promote societal contributions through various capacities beyond elected positions.
When quizzed about his priorities for the next term, Rijiju outlined plans to focus on enhancing income levels, improving living standards, fostering economic growth, and promoting skill development and employment opportunities. He stressed upon the importance of addressing basic necessities while creating a conducive environment for economic prosperity.
As elections to the two Lok Sabha seats and the 60-member Arunachal Pradesh Assembly approach, Rijiju remains steadfast in his commitment to serving the people of Arunachal Pradesh and advancing the region’s development agenda.
