During his two-day state visit to Bhutan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was greeted with warm hospitality and bestowed with Bhutan’s highest honor, the Order of the Druk Gyalpo. This prestigious award was conferred upon him by the King of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, in recognition of his significant contributions to strengthening the longstanding ties between India and Bhutan. Prime Minister Modi expressed his gratitude, stating that this honor belongs not only to him but to all 1.4 billion Bharatiyas, symbolizing the strong bond between the two nations.

Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Bhutan reaffirmed the enduring friendship and strategic partnership between India and Bhutan. In meetings with both the current King, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, and former King, Jigme Singye Wangchuck, the leaders reviewed bilateral relations and explored avenues to further enhance cooperation. Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra also participated in these discussions, emphasizing the importance of the special relationship shared by the two countries.

The visit witnessed an unprecedented display of warmth and enthusiasm from the people of Bhutan towards Prime Minister Modi. As he traversed the 45-kilometer stretch from Paro to Thimphu, locals lined the streets to greet him, underscoring the deep-rooted affection and admiration for the Indian leader. At his hotel in Thimphu, Prime Minister Modi was treated to a special cultural performance of Garba, a traditional Gujarati dance, by Bhutanese youth. This gesture highlighted the cultural exchange and the affinity between the peoples of India and Bhutan.

Addressing the audience at the Tendrelthang Festival Ground in Thimphu, Prime Minister Modi expressed his profound appreciation for the honor bestowed upon him by Bhutan. He emphasized that the recognition signifies the shared aspirations and achievements of both nations, reflecting a mutual commitment to progress and prosperity. Furthermore, Prime Minister Modi interacted with members of the Indian diaspora and local Bhutanese communities, further cementing the bonds of friendship between the two countries.

As Prime Minister Modi concludes his visit to Bhutan, both nations stand poised to embark on a new chapter of collaboration and mutual growth. The reaffirmation of commitment and the exchange of honors underscore the depth of the bilateral relationship, promising continued cooperation in various fields including trade, education, and defense. With a shared vision for regional stability and development, India and Bhutan are poised to navigate the challenges of the 21st century together, fostering peace and prosperity for their peoples.
