Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has taken a stand against his recent arrest and subsequent remand order by filing a challenge before the Delhi High Court. Seeking an urgent hearing on Sunday, March 24th, Kejriwal contends that both his arrest and the remand order are illegal. The arrest, which occurred on March 21st evening, was carried out by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money-laundering case linked to Delhi’s now-defunct excise policy.
In a rare public appearance, Sunita Kejriwal, Arvind Kejriwal’s wife and a former IRS officer, read out a message from her husband sent from ED custody. Kejriwal conveyed his determination to return soon to fulfill his promises to the people. Asserting his commitment to serving the country, he expressed confidence in his imminent release, stating, “No jail can keep your brother, your son inside for long.”
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) swiftly reacted to Kejriwal’s arrest, demanding his resignation. Union Minister Anurag Thakur emphasized the gravity of the situation, comparing it to past instances where resignations were expected in similar circumstances. Additionally, BJP’s IT department head Amit Malviya criticized Kejriwal’s wife, Sunita Kejriwal, for her remarks regarding forces weakening the country. Malviya pointed out connections between AAP MP Raghav Chadha and British Labour MP Preet K Gill, suggesting associations that were perceived as detrimental to India’s interests.
Anurag Thakur, Union Minister and prominent BJP member, reiterated the party’s stance, demanding Kejriwal’s resignation in light of the ongoing legal proceedings. Thakur emphasized the need for accountability, drawing parallels with past political scandals where resignations were deemed necessary.
Despite his current predicament, Kejriwal remained resolute in his vision for India’s future. He urged the people to join hands in making India the strongest and greatest nation in the world, emphasizing the need to identify and overcome forces, both internal and external, that seek to undermine the country’s progress.
As the legal battle unfolds, with Kejriwal challenging his arrest and remand order in the Delhi High Court, the political landscape in Delhi remains tense. The outcome of this legal challenge could have significant ramifications for both Kejriwal and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), as well as the broader political arena in Bharat.
