On Sunday on the eve of Holi celebrations, people will observe Holika Dahan. This festival, also called Choti Holi, signifies the victory of good over evil and holds great significance in Bharatiya culture.
A bonfire is lit at night during Holika Dahan, a tradition deeply rooted in Hindu mythology. The bonfire signifies the destruction of negative energies, bad habits, and ill thoughts, paving the way for a celebration filled with positivity and joy.
Significance
As per Hindu scriptures Holika Dahan, which is also known as Holika Deepak or Chhoti Holi. Holika Dahan is celebrated to remind us of Holika, an asuri and sister of Hirankashyap, who was a great king as per Hindu scriptures.
The mythology teaches us to never miss use our power to strengths to harm others and choose a different path than Holika.
How to perform puja
. People are advised to light a four-faced diya with mustard oil around 4 pm to 5 pm along the same home made sweets such as Malpua or semolina halwa for Ksehtrapaal, who is another form Kaal Bhairav.
. Take water mixed with milk, turmeric, roli, wheat flour, white sacred thread, akshat, jaggery, garland, earthen lamp, desi ghee and incense sticks.
. Circumambulate seven times and tie a white sacred thread around the Holika and also offer water.
. Offer cow dung cakes also to the Holika and offer wheat flour.
. Put turmeric and roli tilak where the pyre is set.
