On Sunday, four people were killed and at least eight others were injured after a race car drifted off-road and hit spectators at a rally in Hungary.
The accident occurred during a race between the towns of Labatlan and Bajot near the Danube River in northwest Hungary, according to the media reports.
The statement added, ‘According to the data so far, a vehicle participating in a rally race drifted off the road for an unknown reason and drove into the spectators’.
Four helicopters and eight ambulances were sent off to the scene, and the race was stopped.
‘Among the injured, two people sustained serious injuries while the remaining six were transported to a hospital with lighter injuries’, according to the media reports.
However, the reason behind the crash is not yet known. Videos went viral on social media showing the race car losing traction on a paved road before sliding into spectators who had gathered to view the race.
The Hungarian National Motorsport Association (MNASZ) expressed its condolences to the relatives and family members of the victims, according to the media reports.
The MNASZ vowed to cooperate with the authorities to probe the circumstances of the accident without delay.
