WhatsApp Explores AI-Driven Photo Editing Feature for Messenger App: What to Expect

FacebookTwitterWhatsAppTelegram

In exciting news for WhatsApp users, the popular messaging platform is testing a new feature that could revolutionize how photos are edited and shared. Last month, WhatsApp introduced the ‘search by date’ feature, making it easier for users to find old multimedia messages. Now, they’re taking it a step further with AI-powered editing tools for photos.

According to reports from WABetaInfo, a trusted WhatsApp community blog, the latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android, labeled v2.24.7.13, includes a new editing tool. This tool is located in the top left corner when sharing a photo on WhatsApp, indicating that users may soon have access to powerful editing capabilities right within the app.

The AI-based photo editing tool offers three main options: backdrop, restyle, and expand. The ‘backdrop’ option allows users to modify the background of their photos, adding blur effects or even replacing it with different landscapes. This feature could be particularly useful for enhancing the aesthetics of images before sharing them with friends and family.

With the ‘restyle’ option, users can adjust the color tone and brightness of their photos. Similar to the styles offered by the iPhone’s native camera app, WhatsApp’s tool is expected to provide various preset options like Standard, Rich Contrast, Vibrant, Warm, and Cool. Additionally, users may have the ability to further customize these styles to suit their preferences.

The third option, ‘Expand,’ enables users to resize or enlarge photos, ensuring that the subjects in the frame are clearly visible to the recipient. This feature could be handy for improving the clarity and focus of images before sending them through WhatsApp.

While these features are currently being tested, there’s speculation that WhatsApp may introduce even more editing options in the future. Additionally, there’s talk of integrating text prompts to generate images, further enhancing the creative possibilities within the app.

However, it’s important to note that these features are still in the testing phase, and WhatsApp is likely to make changes based on feedback from beta testers and to address any bugs or issues that arise. Therefore, it may take several months before the feature is ready for a public release through an app update.

In conclusion, WhatsApp’s latest venture into AI-powered photo editing is poised to offer users a convenient and versatile tool for enhancing their images directly within the app. With the potential for additional features and customization options in the works, WhatsApp users have much to look forward to in the coming months.
