Raebareli MLA Aditi Singh, formerly with the Congress party and now aligned with the BJP, has stirred controversy by accusing Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra of orchestrating a smear campaign against her. Singh alleges that Priyanka Gandhi instructed her ex-husband to tarnish her character during their divorce proceedings.

Aditi Singh, currently serving as the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Raebareli Sadar constituency in Uttar Pradesh, made the accusations against Priyanka Gandhi Vadra during an interview on the ANI Podcast with journalist Smita Prakash. In the viral video snippet, Singh claimed that Priyanka Gandhi instructed her ex-husband, Angad Saini, to speak negatively about her character.
Singh’s political journey has seen her transition from the Congress party to the BJP in November 2021. She contested and won the Rae Bareli Sadar seat, previously held by her father Akhilesh Singh, who had represented the Congress in the constituency for several years.
The allegations made by Aditi Singh have reignited the longstanding political rivalry between the Congress and the BJP in Uttar Pradesh. Singh’s defiance against the Congress party dates back to 2019 when she attended a special assembly session convened by the Yogi Adityanath-led government, leading to a formal complaint for her disqualification filed by the Uttar Pradesh Congress Party.
The rift between Aditi Singh and the Congress party escalated further when the party refused to grant a ticket to her then-husband, Angad Saini, for the Nawanshahr seat in Punjab. Saini, who had previously been elected as an MLA, ran as an independent candidate, alleging that the decision was influenced by issues related to his wife’s rebellion against the Congress.
Angad Saini’s return to the Congress fold in May 2022 did little to quell the tensions within the party, as Aditi Singh continued to openly criticize various decisions made by the Congress high command. Singh’s allegations against Priyanka Gandhi Vadra add another layer of complexity to the ongoing political turmoil within the Congress party.
The BJP, on the other hand, has seized upon Aditi Singh’s accusations to further its political agenda, using her defection from the Congress and her subsequent electoral victory to bolster its position in Uttar Pradesh. The fallout from Singh’s revelations is likely to reverberate across the political landscape, impacting both the Congress party’s internal dynamics and the broader political landscape in Uttar Pradesh.
