The Assam Government’s initiatives to improve cancer treatment facilities in the State and its effectiveness in combating the same has become a role model for Bharat as the Central Government led by PM Narendra Modi appreciated the same.
The Centre sees the planning by Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma and his administration as a blueprint for other states to follow.
On March 27 in a letter addressed to all State Health departments, the Health and Family Welfare Ministry highlighted Assam’s cancer care model and exhorted all States to consider its replication with required modifications.
Centre’s Senior Economic Advisor Indrani Kaushal focuses attention on the pivotal role of adequate human resources in ensuring the maximum functioning of cancer centres.
The Department-Related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Health & Family Welfare outlined the significance of implementing the Assam Cancer Care Model or the Tata Memorial Center Model across Bharat.
CM Himanta wrote, “Once upon a time, people would leave Assam for lack of cancer treatment facilities. Today, I am glad to share the Central Government has recommended States to adopt Assam’s Cancer Care Model. We are investing over ₹3,600cr to construct 17 world class cancer hospitals, which offer quality treatment at pocket friendly prices. Assam will become East Bharat’s cancer care hub.”
Assam Health Minister Keshav Mahanta expressed gratitude and mentioned, ‘Under CM Himanta Biswa Sarma’s leadership, the State Health Department remains proactive in aligning with national directives, ensuring Assam stays at the forefront of healthcare innovation’.
