Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during an event at the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in Mumbai celebrating its 90th anniversary, exuded confidence about his re-election as the country’s prime minister. Addressing RBI officials, PM Modi joked about the increased workload they would face immediately after his swearing-in ceremony for a third consecutive term. He playfully remarked, “I am busy with elections for the next 100 days. So, you have a lot of time to think about new policies,” eliciting laughter and applause from the audience.
PM Modi continued his light-hearted banter, stating, “This is because, immediately following the day of my oath-taking, you will be flooded with work.” His remarks reflect his optimism about securing another term in office, despite the upcoming challenges and responsibilities.
With the Lok Sabha elections approaching, scheduled to be held in seven phases starting April 19, PM Modi has consistently expressed confidence in his government’s performance and the prospect of winning a third consecutive term. He has coined the slogan ‘Abki baar, 400 paar’ (this time, we will cross 400 seats) for the 2024 elections, emphasizing the BJP’s determination to surpass its previous victories.
In the 2014 general elections, the BJP secured 282 seats in the 543-seat Lok Sabha, followed by an even stronger performance in 2019 with 303 seats. However, the upcoming elections present a new challenge as the BJP faces a joint opposition, led by the Congress-led INDIA bloc.
The counting of votes for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls is scheduled for June 4, three days after the seventh and final phase of polling. As anticipation builds for the election results, PM Modi’s confidence and humor provide insights into the political landscape and the challenges ahead for the ruling BJP.
