In response to China’s recent actions renaming several areas in Arunachal Pradesh and the ensuing controversy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserted on Monday the unequivocal stance of Arunachal Pradesh being an integral part of India. In an interview with the Assam Tribune, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the ongoing development initiatives in the northeastern state, likening them to the swift arrival of dawn.
Addressing concerns regarding China’s historical claims over parts of Arunachal Pradesh and opposition criticism ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, Prime Minister Modi reiterated the state’s secure status within India. He emphasized the substantial progress witnessed in the region, citing his recent visit to Itanagar where he inaugurated projects worth Rs 55,000 crore, including the strategically significant Sela Tunnel.
Highlighting various development projects aimed at enhancing infrastructure and livelihoods in Arunachal Pradesh, Prime Minister Modi detailed initiatives such as housing schemes, water supply projects, airport inaugurations, and road constructions. He also announced the launch of the UNNATI scheme, aimed at fostering investment and job opportunities in the region.
China’s reaction to Prime Minister Modi’s visit was marked by a diplomatic protest, expressing discontent and reiterating its territorial claims, which have long been contested by India.
Amidst the ongoing controversy, the Congress party has criticized Prime Minister Modi’s handling of the situation, accusing him of negligence and advocating for a stronger response to China’s actions.
Shifting focus to issues of infiltration from Myanmar, Prime Minister Modi addressed concerns regarding Mizoram’s security challenges. He outlined measures taken by the Indian government to address the issue, including scrapping the free movement regime between India and Myanmar, bolstering border security, and urging the Mizoram government to capture biometric data of illegal migrants.
Expressing the desire for peace and stability in Myanmar to facilitate the return of displaced individuals, Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s commitment to addressing border security concerns effectively and collaboratively with neighboring countries.
