Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal, accusing it of trying to obstruct Ram Navami celebrations. He announced that the court had granted permission for Ram Navami processions to proceed with reverence and devotion. PM Modi referred to a recent Calcutta High Court order, mentioned that permission was granted to the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) for a procession on Ram Navami in Howrah city, with certain conditions to maintain peace and harmony.
The procession, starting from near Shibpur IIEST to Ramkrishnapur ferry ghat on the Hooghly banks, was granted permission by Justice Jay Sengupta. Also, with the condition that no provocative slogans be chanted, and the procession must continue without stopping en route on Ram Navami.
The Mamata Banerjee-led state government had raised concerns about unrest during last year’s procession, citing an ongoing NIA investigation into the incident. In response, the government proposed an alternative route, which the organizers contested, leading to the petition in the high court.
